Norwich City have denied that their striker Gary Hooper turned down the chance to join Sheffield Wednesday because the Yorkshire club refused to give him a VIP box for games.

According to the Sheffield Star, Wednesday had agreed to a £500,000 loan fee and were to pay the player’s wages of £32,000 a week should he join the Championship club.

Hooper reportedly passed a medical last week but the Star said the move collapsed after a wrangle over the VIP box at Hillsborough, said to cost £30,000 a season, for Hooper’s friends and family.

However, Norwich, while declining to comment on Wednesday, said it was not true that the move had fallen down over a VIP box while Hooper tweeted: “Not true” to questions about what he may have asked for on Twitter.

Hooper was subsequently linked with a move to Fulham but they were also unable to reach an agreement with the player.

Wednesday, who finished 13th last season, are 15th in the table.
