Gary Hooper Celtic return attempts revealed as former agent confirms desire to bring him back

Celtic tried to re-sign Gary Hooper more than once, according to the striker’s former agent.

The former Scunthorpe man scored over 180 goals over three seasons at Parkhead after Neil Lennon brought him north.

Hooper picked up two Scottish Premiership winners medals and lifted the Scottish Cup twice with Celtic before returning south to Norwich City.

Tipped as a potential England cap such was his form for the Hoops, Hooper is currently starring for Kerala Blasters in India.

He has often been linked with a return to Scotland with his former club over the years, and former agent William Glavin confirmed it almost happened but on neither occasions could an agreement be reached.

He told the Celtic Now and Forever podcast: "There have been a couple of occasions over the years when he could’ve been back but it just didn’t quite work out.

"Some people tried to do it I remember a few years back actually and it didn’t quite work out.

"Neil Lennon was always a big fan of him.

"Neil Lennon tried to get him at Bolton, when he was there – just couldn’t do it at that time.”
