Gary Holt reveals Robby McCrorie quality he loves as Tommy Wright blasts ropey ref

Tommy Wright slammed ref Euan Anderson for failing to award a first half spot kick and says he expects a phone call to apologise from the official.

The St Johnstone boss was fuming after Anderson waved play on following the 15th minute incident that saw Michael O’Halloran fall under a challenge from Ciaron Brown and Robby McCrorie.

Wright reckons it should have been a spot kick TWICE.

He blasted: “We deserve at least a point. If the referee gets the right decision on the penalty in the first half then we probably deserve all three.

“I’m at a loss. I have seen it back and it’s beyond me how the referee and assistant can’t see it.

“You can’t give a penalty twice but if ever there was a chance to do it then that’s it.

“I just hope he looks at that again. Referees ring other managers to apologise so if he doesn’t ring me then I think we have got a bigger problem than we thought.”

Gary Holt hailed McCrorie for being ‘Mr Ugly’ on his Premiership debut to earn Livingston three crucial points.

The Rangers loanee was thrust in for his debut after a whirlwind 24 hours that saw him recalled from a loan spell at Queen of the South and sent down the M8 to Livingston.

Holt said: “He was excellent, his handling was excellent and he knew when to come and when to stay. His saves were brilliant and it was refreshing to hear him shouting and bawling like that on his debut.

“Sometimes you have to coach that into players and tell them that they are allowed to shout at them.

“At the final whistle, they can all slap him on the back and say; ‘Well done’ but that’s the selfishness a goalkeeper needs to have.

“He has to be the ugly guy who never shuts up and who no-one likes.

“It’s great to see a young lad who’s prepared to organise and dictate the play to his defenders.

“It was a no-brainer to bring him here when the chance arose because he’s been playing for Queen of the South so we didn’t have to bring him up to speed.”
