Gary Holt in Celtic and Rangers crowd claim as he pinpoints difference between past Parkhead and Ibrox trips

Former Livingston manager Gary Holt believes the lack of fans this season is benefiting Rangers more than Celtic.

The Light Blues hold a 16 point advantage in the Scottish Premiership and Holt reckons that's in part down to the fact stadiums are lying empty on matchdays.

He reckons the fans act differently at both clubs from his past experiences as a manager at both Parkhead and Ibrox before he left the Lions last month.

In his mind, the Hoops faithful are more likely to get behind their team while their counterparts across the city may be quicker to feel the 'tension' in a tight game.

Speaking on Clyde 1's Superscoreboard, Holt said: "It has benefited Rangers and it’s not helped Celtic.

"Celtic fans boost their team when you’re there. With Rangers, when I’ve been there, minutes into the game when it’s 0-0, you can feel that bit of tension because they want to be winning games, they want to be catching their neighbours they want to be ahead of them.

"Rangers can go and play and have a freedom to play, and a freedom to make mistakes in the forward areas because they know they’re going to get another chance.

"They’ve not got fans having a go at the time within Ibrox and it’s certainly proving they’re benefiting from it."
