Gary Hetherington provides Leeds Rhinos recruitment update after Matt Prior departure

Leeds Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington has admitted work is going on behind the scenes as the club's recruitment drive for the upcoming season continues to progress. This week, the Rhinos announced the departure of Matt Prior, which not only freed up salary cap space but a quota spot too.

The Rhinos' salary cap issues have been well documented but they now have some substantial room to work with. Jack Walker, Zak Hardaker and Prior have all departed, with only Sam Lisone coming in. That leaves them in a position to do further business before 2023.

Most believe a centre will be a priority for the Rhinos given Hardaker and Liam Sutcliffe, the pair who played in the Grand Final back in September, have now both departed. However, Hetherington told Leeds Live that the club is close to announcing their squad numbers which should give a clear indication as to what Leeds' plans are for the position next season.

Alongisde Lisone, the prop who arrives from the Gold Coast Titans. the club has confirmed a raft of signings. Justin Sangare, James McDonnell, Derrell Olpherts, Luis Roberts, Luke Hooley, Leon Ruan and Toby Warren have all been brought in.
