Gary Cronin steps down as Bray Wanderers manager after three-and-a-half years

Gary Cronin has announced he will depart Bray Wanderers after three-and-a-half years in charge of the Seagulls.

The 42-year-old leaves the Carlisle Grounds following a narrow defeat to UCD earlier this month in the promotional play-off final defeat.

Bray's future remains up in the air after fellow First Division side Cabinteely confirmed their acquisition of the Wicklow outfit last week.

A press conference in Bray on Friday morning will shed further light on the future of both clubs.

A hybrid model incorporating Cabo's underage and Bray's senior operation is likely in the short term as the new club look to continue to play at the Wicklow County Coucil stadium.

Cronin confirmed on social media on Thursday evening that he will not be involved with the new club next year as Cabo director of football Pat Devlin is set to take the reins.

Cronin tweeted: "A massive thank you to all @BrayWanderers for the opportunity to manage the Seagulls for the last three and a half years.

"Thank you to my staff, players and the supporters. I wish the incoming board and management team the very best for the future."

Cronin took over at Bray midway through the 2018 season as he took over from caretaker boss Graham Kelly, who had stepped in following Martin Russell's resignation.

The UEFA Pro License holder had previously been assistant to Tony Cousins and Neale Fenn at Longford Town, having had spells with Longford, Bray and Drogheda United as a player.
