Gary Cronin returns to Longford Town as manager days after leaving Bray Wanderers

Longford Town will have a familiar face in the dugout in 2022 as Gary Cronin returns to the club as manager following a four-year stint at Bray Wanderers.

Cronin, a former Longford Town player and assistant manager to Tony Cousins, Alan Mathews and Neale Fenn, parted company with the Seagulls on Thursday.

And the 42-year-old has wasted no time in getting back on the horse as he replaces his former Wanderers teammate Daire Doyle in the Bishopsgate dugout.

Cronin had two spells with Longford as a player, either side of a three-year stint at the Seagulls, before retiring at the end of the 2013 season.

He was appointed Cousins' assistant following his retirement and remained at the club during Mathews' and Fenn's tenures before taking the Bray job in August of 2018.

"I’m delighted to be back at Longford Town Football Club," the Dubliner told the club's official website.

"I’ve spent ten seasons of my LOI football career at this great club as a player, coach and assistant so I’m relishing the challenge to manage the club next season."

Town head of operations and media James Donnelly added: "It’s great to have Gary back at the club again.

"He’s a Town legend at this stage, from being a player to a coach to returning to the club now as manager.

"I’m sure all the Town supporters will get behind him from the get-go. There’s exciting times ahead."
