Gary Caldwell sacked by Partick Thistle after dismal start to the season

Partick Thistle have sacked Gary Caldwell after the Jags' dismal start to the season.

The club are currently second bottom of the Championship table and have not registered a win in their first five games.

Caldwell took charge of the club last season but the board have opted to part ways with the former Celtic defender.

Partick Thistle announced the news in a statement: "Earlier today, the board of Partick Thistle Football Club informed manager Gary Caldwell that his contract has been terminated with immediate effect.

"A further update will be provided later today."

The Firhill side were held to a draw against Arbroath last Friday night and will now look for his replacement as they host Dunfermline this weekend.

Thistle enjoyed one of their best seasons in the top flight in recent years under Alan Archibald in 2016/17, securing a top-six finish, before being relegated to the Championship 12 months later.

Wholesale changes to the squad meant the Jags didn't adapt to life in the second tier, before Archibald was replaced by Caldwell last October.

Caldwell's men managed to salvage a 6th place finish after a dreadful start to the season, but have endured a poor start to the new campaign.
