Gary Caldwell sacked as Partick Thistle manager

Partick Thistle have sacked manager Gary Caldwell after less than 12 months in charge.

Caldwell took over on October 15 last year and steered Thistle to safety on the final day of last season, but they sit ninth in the Ladbrokes Championship with two points from five matches.

A club statement read: "Earlier today, the board of Partick Thistle Football Club informed manager Gary Caldwell that his contract has been terminated with immediate effect. A further update will be provided later today."

The move comes after a woeful run of form which sees the Jags in second bottom place in the Scottish Championship, having only taken only two points from five games.

Caldwell, 36, has been relieved of his duties following Saturday's 1-1 away draw with Arbroath.

The former Scotland and Celtic star replaced Thistle legend at Firhill Alan Archibald in October 2018.
