Gary Caldwell 'destroyed' Partick Thistle claims former player in brutal attack on ex-Celtic star

Souleymane Coulibaly has accused Gary Caldwell of ruining Partick Thistle and insists his old gaffer knows nothing about football.

The striker spent a season at Firhill but played just three games and scored no goals for the club.

And he was particularly frustrated at former Celtic defender Caldwell and insists he's fully to blame for them being relegated to League One.

The club were in the Premiership just a few years ago but have been on a downward spiral in recent seasons.

But Coulibaly insists Caldwell has no clue what he's doing when it comes to football.

He told thesetpieces.com: "He knew nothing about football. He didn’t play me, so I just played for the reserve team.

"Sometimes I would play in defence or midfield as well. When a manager doesn’t like you, you can’t do anything about it. I don’t know why he didn’t like me.

"Only he knows. But he doesn’t know anything about football because if he did Partick wouldn’t be in League One. He destroyed the club."

The Ivory Coast international started at Tottenham but had perhaps his best time in his career at Kilmarnock when he scored 11 goals for the club and earned a £800k move.

And he reckons that if Mauricio Pochettino had joined Spurs earlier, he'd still be at the club.

He added: “If I had the chance, like a lot of people had at Tottenham, I don’t think I’d be here.

“I’d be playing first team in Tottenham because I know my ability. I know what I’ve got in my locker. If I was there when Mauricio Pochettino came, who knows?

“But it didn’t happen, so that’s why I’m here. I was expected to play in the Premier League for Tottenham, to help them achieve whatever they wanted. But, you know, football is like this. Sometimes you go down, sometimes you go up. The best way is to keep going. That’s what I’m doing.

“I remember when Adebayor was injured, that’s when Harry Kane took his chance. Tim Sherwood started to play him. Pochettino changed the strategy and started putting in young players. Harry Kane took his chance. Dele Alli took his chance. Andros Townsend took his chance. They became what they are now,” he recalls.

“It was very tough. With every footballer, when you start playing and your confidence is high, that’s when people need to give you the chance. When the chance doesn’t come, you have to leave for first-team football. You cannot stay at a big club just to play in the reserves. Everybody has their ambition. My ambition wasn’t to play for the reserve team.”
