Gary Cahill's first words after joining Crystal Palace on a free transfer

Gary Cahill is a Crystal Palace player.

The former England international has joined the Eagles on a free transfer following his release from London rivals Chelsea at the end of June.

As a result, the 33-year-old joins Stephen Henderson and Jordan Ayew as the new faces at Selhurst Park this summer.

Palace still have a few more days to add to their squad with transfer deadline day fast approaching for Premier League clubs.

But the arrival of Cahill adds extra depth to Roy Hodgson's centre-back options and can also help guide the youngsters with his vast experience having made over 200 appearances for the Blues.

And the defender insists he still has plenty to offer.

"I’m glad to be here, I think it’s a good opportunity for me to continue my career in the Premier League, and to play in a good, exciting team," he said. "There are some very exciting, talented players here.

"I’m looking forward to the challenge.

"I’m hungry to prolong my career as long as I possibly can – I feel like I’m in great shape and whoever I play for, I’d like to think that I give it 110% and leave everything out there - so hopefully that will be good enough for the manager, my team-mates and also the fans."

Palace boss Hodgson is very happy at securing Cahill's signature.

"I’m delighted that Gary has joined us," Hodgson said. "He’s a fantastic footballer who brings a wealth of international and Premier League experience.

"Having worked alongside Gary during my time as England manager, I know that he is going to be a valuable asset and I’m so happy to be working with him again."
