Gary Cahill makes big Frank Lampard prediction as he delivers verdict on his Chelsea sacking

Gary Cahill is confident that Frank Lampard will soon return to management after his exit from Chelsea.

The Blues legend was sacked by Chelsea last month after a poor run of form, with Roman Abramovich making the decision to part with Lampard and appoint Thomas Tuchel as his successor.

Chelsea have enjoyed an upturn in form in recent weeks under the German, with two wins and a draw from his first three games in charge, including a 1-0 victory against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.

But Cahill has spoken about the decision made to sack his old team-mate, with the Crystal Palace defender speaking positively about Lampard and admitting that he expects him to be back in football sooner rather than later.

“I think so, definitely," he said, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I don’t know how soon, it depends on him personally and the opportunities, but for sure I see him getting back in.

“It will be interesting where he gets back in, because you look at the two jobs he has had and they couldn’t really be further apart, at Derby in the Championship and then one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

“So where he fits in, I’m not quite sure, but for sure, I see him getting back in."

Meanwhile, Cahill said he felt that the decision to part ways with Lampard was made too soon, although he said that his former team-mate would understand that it was always a possibility at Chelsea.

However, he thinks that Chelsea will do well with Tuchel, adding that the Blues have the quality to cause problems for others in the Premier League.

“It would have been nice to see him have longer, let’s be honest, but he knows the club more than most and that’s not always the case there," he said.

“They’ve got the new manager in now and it will be interesting to see how he gets on.

"There’s no question the squad is phenomenal and you could field two 11s there, the squad is definitely there.

“It is just a shame for me, with him being a friend as well, that he didn’t get longer.”
