Gary Barlow 'flown in to perform surprise gig' at James Milner's wife's 40th birthday

Gary Barlow is said to have been flown in to perform a surprise set at a 40th birthday party for the wife of Premier League footballer James Milner last week.

It's been reported that Liverpool FC midfielder James, 36, organised a 'secret gig' as part of celebrations for his wife Amy Fletcher, now 40 – who's said to be a fan of Take That.

He's said to have arranged for the band's lead singer Gary, 51, to perform at her birthday party in Cheshire last week and reportedly even flew him in from London for the event.

The singer-songwriter is said to have performed a number of songs at the surprise gig, including Back For Good and Could It Be Magic – which were both released by the band in the 1990s.

A source told The Sun that James arranged for Gary to be flown by helicopter from London to Cheshire for the party, with his arrival said to have been a huge surprise to Amy.

They said that he had wanted to give his wife a memorable day, saying: "Amy loves Take That and James wanted to make her day with a surprise she could only dream of."

"She couldn't believe her eyes when she saw Gary walking through the door. You could tell James was relieved he pulled it off without her finding out," the source concluded.

Other guests are said to have included some of James' teammates and pals from his former clubs, which include Manchester City, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Leeds United.

James – who has two children with his wife Amy – signed for Liverpool FC in 2015 and is said to have made more than 200 appearances as part of the team since then.

The party comes amid Gary having recently launched his solo show A Different Stage, which he is currently performing at the Duke of York's Theatre in the capital city.

The show will remain at the venue for much of next month, before touring other parts of the UK and Ireland including Cornwall, Salford, Newcastle, Dublin and Portsmouth.

The Mirror approached reps for James and Gary for comment.
