Gary Ballance is a doubt for the remainder of the Tri-Series after England confirmed the batsman has fractured a finger. The 25-year-old broke the little digit on his right hand during fielding drills before England’s second warmup match against a Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra on Wednesday.

Ballance, who has played eight Tests and 12 one-day internationals, has not been selected for any of England’s three matches since the team’s arrival in Australia on 8 January, but is expected to be fit for the World Cup.

An England statement said: “England batsman Gary Ballance has a fractured right little finger, sustained during fielding practice in Canberra. Ballance will be available for the ICC Cricket World Cup and, therefore, we will not be calling another player into the squad.”
