The GP Out of Hours Service at Gartnavel Hospital will be shut tonight due to safety fears.
The closure comes after concerns about dust particles which were disturbed by contractors carrying out an ongoing refurbishment programme this afternoon.
Bosses made the decision as a "precautionary measure" and sent out assurances to patients that there is no need for concern.
A spokesperson for NHSGGC said: "We are currently carrying out work on the hospital as part of an ongoing refurbishment programme to enhance areas of the hospital.
"Contractors are on site today removing a number of ceiling tiles which resulted in some dust particles in the surrounding area. These are not harmful.
"The contractors were also carrying out some air quality tests which have come back negative so there is absolutely no concern for patients.
"However, as a precautionary measure we have took the decision while this work was ongoing to close the GP Out of Hours service at 4.00pm today."
GPs are providing support from other hospitals across the city.
Patients should contact NHS 24 as normal who will direct them to the appropriate service.
The department is expected to be reopened again tomorrow.
