Garth Crooks makes major claim about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Arsenal following Villa win

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been included in BBC pundit Garth Crooks' latest team of the week.

The Gabon international completed the Gunners' turnaround against Aston Villa, scoring the side's winning goal from a free kick that wrong footed goalkeeper Tom Heaton in the 84th minute of the game.

Arsenal found themselves behind twice in the game, and were reduced to 10 men just before half time when full back Ainsley Maitland Niles was shown a second yellow card. But a penalty from Nicolas Pepe and strikes from Calum Chambers and Aubemeyang ensured that the Gunners would take the full three points from the match.

The goal was Aubameyang's seventh in seven appearances this season, and Crooks says that he is the driving force of the Arsenal team.

"Arsenal find themselves in the top four and it's all down to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang," he wrote in his weekly BBC column .

"Since his arrival at the Emirates he has rescued Arsenal's often abject performances and made them palatable. Their game against a plucky Aston Villa who seem to be slowly adapting to life in the Premier League, although it might be a little too slow to survive in the Premier League, was poor and they rely far too much on the Gabon international.

Arsenal 3-2 Aston Villa: Unai Emery full press conference

"I've seen this before when managers use strikers as a get out of jail card and the moment the striker's goals dry up they are the first out the door. Arsenal owe Aubameyang and when he is struggling, and he will, give him a little latitude."
