Garth Crooks left "irritated" by Liverpool star Mohamed Salah's latest display

Garth Crooks launched a bizarre rant at Mohamed Salah after including the Liverpool striker in his team of the week, despite describing his performance as poor.

Salah netted one of three Liverpool goals as they were held off by newly promoted Brentford in a pulsating encounter.

The Egyptian’s goal was his 100th in the top-flight for the Reds, reaching the landmark in 151 games, the quickest of any player in the club’s illustrious history.

But he was guilty of spurning some other chances as Jurgen Klopp’s side missed out on the opportunity to move three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Crooks included Salah in his weekly selections, but strangely admitted he was “irritated” by his own decision to include him.

“I'm almost irritated by my own selection. By Salah's standards, this was a poor performance from the Egyptian superstar,” he wrote in his BBC Sport column.

He probably scored the easiest chance of the match. However it's very difficult to ignore a player who has scored 100 Premier League goals faster than any other Liverpool player in their history.

“It's a magnificent achievement even if the performance against Brentford wasn't one of his best.”

It was another impressive result for Brentford, who now have nine points from their opening six games of the season.

However, Crooks is anticipating a season of struggle for the Bees, predicting they will only narrowly avoid the drop,

He continued: “Ten of the 11 Brentford players have played in every game this season and that is why they will eventually struggle to survive this season, although I think they just might make it.”

While Crooks was less than complimentary about Salah, the forward’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, described his achievement as “incredible”.

“Two weeks ago he scored 100 in the league, now 100 (in the league) for Liverpool,” said the Reds boss.

“We gave him already the shirt with 100 on the back, so maybe we now have to give him another one!

“But exceptional. We all know in the future when people look back, people will speak about some players in this team 100% and 100% about Mo Salah because his numbers here are insane and incredible.

“But I know Mo. And he is now sitting in the dressing room and thinking about the two chances that he missed or didn’t take.

“Maybe next time he will the quickest player to score 150 goals, it is an absolutely outstanding achievement, no doubt.”
