Garth Brooks concerts weather update as Met Eireann give latest Dublin forecast amid hurricane fears

Garth Brooks is gearing up to perform five gigs in Croke Park over the coming days.

More than 400,000 fans will descend on Dublin to see the US country music superstar play live on September 9, 10, 11, 16 and 17.

But with no roof over GAA HQ, many are wondering what the weather will do - and whether a hurricane currently in the Atlantic could head for Ireland and coincide with the gigs.

In its latest forecast for this weekend, Met Eireann said: “Friday will be a bright day with sunny spells and some showers, but not as heavy or as frequent as previous days. Highest temperatures will range from 18C to 21C in light northwest breezes.

“Saturday will be mainly dry with good sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 18C to 21C with light breezes.

“Current indications suggest that Sunday will start off dry, but that rain will spread from the southwest and may be heavy.”

Looking ahead to next week it said: “Pressure lower than typical for the time of year, with temperatures a little higher than usual. There’s expected to be marginally higher than typical rainfall amounts.”

It comes as Hurricane Danielle is hovering in the middle of the Atlantic and could move towards Ireland within days.

Its current path is uncertain with some weather models showing it curving towards Greenland, while others show its remnants heading towards western Europe.

The latter would mean it could blast Ireland with some very wet and windy weather.

Meteorologists are monitoring the hurricane, with the National Hurricane Center saying on Tuesday that it is on a “slow decline”.

Irish weather expert Alan O’Reilly also updated followers on his popular Carlow Weather Twitter account on Tuesday, saying: “Hurricane Danielle can’t decide where to go and now looks likely to spin around in the Atlantic.”

Earlier this week, he pinpointed Friday - the day of Garth Brooks first show - as the day some weather models showed it weakening and heading south of Ireland.

He wrote: "Danielle has become a hurricane again out in the Atlantic once again and is forecast to head Northeast and possibly East. However, it is expected to weaken as it moves East and the track becomes uncertain later in the coming week.

“The latest ECMWF shows Danielle weakening and heading South of Ireland by Friday.”
