Garth Brooks announces two Dublin gigs after infamous 2014 cancellations

Garth Brooks will play Croke Park for two huge shows in Dublin next year, it has been confirmed.

The American country singer-songwriter was due to perform at the iconic stadium back in 2014, but these shows were cancelled after Dublin City Council only gave the go-ahead for three.

400,000 tickets were consequently refunded, causing uproar amongst Irish fans. The musician himself described it as "probably the most devastating thing ever."

Speaking at the CMA Music Festival in Nashville at the time, Brooks said: "When it comes to Ireland, first of all when that happened, probably the most devastating thing ever. That’s probably the saddest moment of my musical career, was what happened in Dublin, right after probably the coolest moment of my music career, selling 400,000 tickets in one sitting."

"To have to refund 400,000 tickets broke my heart. Not being allowed to play all five, I had to pick two to cancel. I said, ‘screw that, I’m not going to do that to these people so it was all or none.

"I will tell you this – I believe that things that start should finish so I have 100 per cent make the opportunity available to the people that make the decision in Ireland to get those shows back up and get them running again. If and when they say yes I will be there."

Seven years since the scandal, the US star has been given the go-ahead to play two nights in Dublin next year.

The 'Friends in Low Places' singer will perform at Croke Park on September 9 and 10, 2022.

Tickets for Garth Brookes will go on sale on Ticketmaster at 8am on Thursday, November 25.
