Gartcosh man's outburst after being asked not to smoke next to pregnant daughter

A selfish Gartcosh man smoked a cigarette in front of his pregnant daughter and then pushed her when she asked him to stop.

Douglas Park, 60, shoved both of his daughters and his shocked wife in a Southview Place property in October.

Despite his actions placing all three women in a state of fear and alarm, Park was given the opportunity to behave by Sheriff Frank Pieri at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week.

The fiscal depute said: “The accused’s partner was in the locus with their two daughters, aged 32 and 28.

“He chapped the door and was allowed entry to the property before asking for medication for a headache.

“After taking some, he lit a cigarette and was asked to leave by his pregnant daughter.

“He refused and continued to smoke.

“He pushed all three witnesses and police were called.”

Park’s solicitor told the court: “He spent the night in custody and had this deferred for good behaviour and to seek help for addiction.

“He has no other pressing matters and is a family-orientated man who is very caring for his grandson.

“He voluntarily attends community addiction services and is a low-risk re-offender.

“He’s a man in his 60s with no convictions.

“I’d invite further deferral to allow him to engage voluntarily with addiction services.”

Sheriff Frank Pieri said: “I’ll defer this for a year to get another good behaviour report.

“If you behave then that will have an input into my decision.”
