Gartcairn striker Martin Grehan set for spell on sidelines

Gartcairn striker Martin Grehan is set to be ruled out for a fortnight after pulling up in their 2-1 win over Lugar.

The Airdrie outfit got off the mark in West of Scotland League Conference B thanks to first-half strikes from Danny Burns and Jordan Moore.

But their first win of the campaign came at a cost as Grehan hobbled off before the break.

It’s another blow for the club, with defender Steven Saunders one match into a two-game suspension, while star striker Gary Harkins is yet to make his competitive debut.

Cairn No.2 Scott Mills, who took the side with gaffer Willie Kinniburgh still in quarantine following a trip to Italy, said: “Martin’s injury is a bit of a blow. We hope he is just out for a couple of weeks.

“It’s his calf or hamstring, so we are waiting for the physio to assess it.

"He had some sort of tightness, so we didn’t want to take any risks and took him off.”

Cairn had the wind in the first half, but Mills was disappointed they didn’t fully use the conditions to their advantage, which allowed the visitors back into it in the second half, after Cairn keeper Hutchison had saved a first half penalty.

He added: “Three points is the best thing about Saturday.

"The conditions were a leveller, but that’s taking nothing away from Lugar, they battled away.

Gartcairn manager Willie Kinniburgh (David Rankin)

“If you don’t take your chances and you don’t make it three or four then you always give a team an opportunity to stay in the game.

"When they got their goal it spooked us for a few minutes, but we managed to see the game out .”

Kinniburgh will be back in the dugout for Saturday’s home clash with St Cadoc’s.
