Gartcairn boss reveals one disappointment over West of Scotland League conference plan SFA KO

Gartcairn boss Willie Kinniburgh admits the club are disappointed to be cut out of the tier six West of Scotland League plans.

The conference system was turned down by the SFA as it would not be possible to add all of the teams to their Judicial Protocol.

A 20-team top flight at tier six with three teams promoted from the Championship and tier seven conferences below was put through by the new-look set-up.

Cairn have been placed in Conference B and Kinniburgh is keen to challenge for the promotion spot – despite frustration that the original proposal was knocked back.

He said: “In terms of where we are it hasn’t really changed anything, but obviously there is disappointment that it’s not what we agreed to originally.

“You want to challenge yourself against the big boys and for us now that might take a bit longer.

“We were in the middle of the Championship last season so as far as planning goes nothing really changes.

“You want to go one better than you did last season and if that means winning the league to get promotion that will be our aim.”

With the new era seemingly set in stone, Cairn have also revealed they will replace every season ticket from last season free of charge amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

"With the move to the new West of Scotland League next season we ask for your continued support," read a club statement.

"A number of season ticket holders have enquired about what happens with missed games and to that note we at Gartcairn believe in looking after those that have helped to look after us.

"We are replacing every season ticket bought last season with a free one for season 2020/21.

"We appreciate your support and hope this goes some way to showing that.

"In these times much as football doesn’t matter as much it does give us something to look forward to.

"We hope everyone stays safe and we all come through this together as one."
