Gartcairn assistant Scott Mills gutted over league suspension after board investment over summer

Gartcairn assistant manager Scott Mills is gutted that the West of Scotland League has been suspended.

Amidst a rise in Covid cases, the SFA decided to postpone all football below the Championship for a minimum of three weeks.

Mills said: “Obviously we are really disappointed as we were supposed to start back training on Monday.

“We can only do what we’re told in these situations. We all love playing football and enjoy it, but there are more important things in life.

“If the people higher up are telling us that then we will listen.”

Gartcairn have invested a significant amount of money as they aim to enjoy a successful debut season in the WOSL.

The postponement of the season could be a huge financial blow but Mills appreciates the boards’ investment.

He added: “The committee have been great. They’ve put a lot of work and backing into supporting us, they’ve been brilliant.

“We knew in the back of our minds this could happen but they’ve reassured us that we’re good to go next season.”

There are fears that the suspension of the league could turn into a cancellation but Mills is hopeful that Gartcairn will be back playing soon.

“I think we will find a way because the collective spirit between everybody will get us back playing football,” he said.

“I wouldn’t worry too much about that because everybody at this level will come together so we can get back playing.

“Match fitness will be a concern, as we already gave the boys two weeks off over Christmas.”
