Garry Ringrose to undergo shoulder surgery as he's ruled out of Ireland summer series

Garry Ringrose is out of Ireland's summer series clashes with Japan and the USA and will undergo surgery on a shoulder injury.

Leinster centre Ringrose will be replaced in Andy Farrell's squad by Ulster's James Hume, who becomes the 12th uncapped player in the 37-man squad for the July encounters.

It also rules Ringrose, who previously had a shoulder operation in 2017, out of a potential Lions call-up this summer.

The other uncapped players in the Ireland squad are Hume's provincial colleagues Robert Baloucoune, Tom O’Toole and Nick Timoney alongside Connacht’s Caolin Blade, Tom Daly and Paul Boyle, Leinster’s Harry Byrne, Peter Dooley and Ross Molony and the Munster duo Gavin Coombes and Fineen Wycherley.
