Garry Monk pinpoints where Leeds United have improved this season

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Garry Monk, believes that there are not too many differences between the Leeds United side of last season and this, despite the Whites looking in a stronger position to gain promotion to the Premier League this time around.

Monk made the admission when addressing the media on Thursday lunchtime ahead of the Owls' visit to Elland Road on Saturday afternoon - a contest which will mark Leeds' first home game of the decade.

After coming so close to achieving promotion last term, losing in the play-off semi-finals to Derby County, Leeds have coming roaring back even stronger this term and currently sit top of the Championship table with 20 games to go.

"I think they are very similar to what they were last year. I think they would say that themselves," said Monk, who will travel to Elland Road without star striker Steven Fletcher after he was ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a knee injury.

"They felt they should have done it last year, they have probably learned from that experience and gained that experience to take into this year.

"I think when you have that, a bit of continuity and an understanding of what is being asked of you from the season before and had that time frame to work with each other to go into the next season is much more of a benefit with a similar group, plus the quality that they have added to that group as well.

"Their aim is quite clear, they say it themselves; it's to be promoted this year. They are on the right course, but in the three games I have had against them, I have managed to do quite well against them result wise, hopefully we can do that again in this game."

The two sides meet at Elland Road in a 3pm kick-off on Saturday.
