Garry Monk not considering quitting Birmingham despite behind-the-scenes concerns

Garry Monk has no plans to quit Birmingham City despite growing concerns behind-the-scenes.

Birmingham boss Monk has been at the training ground this week and sources at the club insist that he is as committed as ever to try and take them forward.

There have been issues surrounding the transfer of Spanish forward Jota to Aston Villa in a swap deal involving Gary Gardner.

Mirror Sport also revealed last month that chief executive Xuandong Ren had taken an office at the club’s training ground which is unusual in English football.

There are concerns that the club - which was given a points deduction after breaching Football League rules on spending - are preparing to go down an extravagant route again on player recruitment.

Monk made it clear towards the end of the season that he was happy to work under financial restrictions with a long term project to build lasting foundations.

The worry is that making another big financial gamble to get the club promoted may not work and it could put Birmingham in danger again.

Monk, 40, has developed a strong rapport with the club’s fans and, while there are concerns about the direction, they are not believed at this stage to be serious enough to make him consider his future.

Birmingham finished last season in 17th in the Championship despite being deducted nine points after failing to comply with EFL rules.

Monk oversaw a fine run of form at the end of the campaign as Birmingham went seven unbeaten to climb away from the drop zone.
