Garry Monk admits he'd like to keep Newcastle's Jacob Murphy at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk has admitted that he would like to keep Jacob Murphy at the South Yorkshire club for at least another season.

With seven goals this campaign - and two in his last two - Murphy has impressed at Hillsborough, and Monk is keen to see whether Newcastle would part with the 25-year-old.

Having signed for the Magpies for £12million back in July 2017, the boyhood Toon fan has only played 41 times in three years for the club, spending a large chunk of it out on loan.

Following a loan spell at West Brom in the second half of last season - where he failed to impress - things have gone much better for him at Wednesday, and Monk concedes he's someone he would like on board for the next campaign.

"I've been delighted with him," Monk told Yorkshire Live.

"I've said if there is an opportunity to bring him back next year, we don't know yet because we're not even concentrating on that, but if there was then he's the type of player I want to work with.

"He's improving and has improved throughout the season.

"If the opportunity is there (bring him back) then yes, but we want to concentrate on these games and then take care of that side of it afterwards."
