Garrett Hall Primary School in Tyldesley fully closes due to positive Covid-19 tests

A primary school in Tyldesley has decided to close to all children after a number of positive Covid-19 tests.

Garrett Hall Primary School will be completely closed today (Wednesday March 17) to allow for a 'deep clean' to take place.

Yesterday, the Manchester Evening News reported that a Year 4 class had been forced to isolate and there had been positive tests in three further classes.

In an email to parents yesterday evening, headteacher Tracy Beaty wrote: "Due to the number of positive Covid-19 cases within our school, I have taken the difficult decision to close Garrett Hall tomorrow for all children.

"This is following consultations with both our Chair of Governors and the Local Authority, and will allow us to conduct a deep clean within school.

"Tomorrow, I will be meeting with both the Local Authority and Public Health England again. Please be assured that every possible action is being taken to ensure both children and staff can return to school as soon as possible.

"This is a decision that has not been taken lightly but I know I will have your full support and understanding.

"Please access your child's Seesaw or Google Classroom account for remote learning activities, which their teacher will post tomorrow.

"I will write to you again tomorrow with further information.

"Please accept my sincere apologies for this immediate closure."
