Before the real summer heat sets in, the maker of popular Garigarikun popsicles has called on consumers who uncover a winning stick to take adequate infection control measures before bringing it back to the store.
Winning sticks have the words "Ippon Atari" in Japanese imprinted on them. The phrase means "You win one." So, if you take the stick back to the store you bought the popsicle from, you can get another one free.
Garigarikun maker Akagi Nyugyo Co. in Fukaya, Saitama Prefecture, circulated via the internet the request to take such measures as washing the winning stick, drying it well and wrapping it in plastic, before bringing back it to the store.
The company said that sellers of Garigarikun have raised concerns about handling these winning sticks amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
Garigarikun hit the market in 1981 and about 400 million packages were sold in 2019.
