
A farmer harvests Rawanbuki giant butterbur during peak harvest season in Ashoro, Hokkaido. The butterburs are a specialty of the town's Rawan district and are among the largest grown in Japan. The plants at the farm grow 2 to 3 meters tall, with stems 8 centimeters in diameter. They are often eaten fried or simmered.
