Gareth Thomas taken down by Craig Doyle during live ITV Rugby World Cup broadcast

Wales rugby legend Gareth Thomas was a tackling machine back in his international rugby-playing days.

And, in a tackling masterclass from the legend commonly refereed to as 'Alfie', Maggie Alphonsi and Sir Clive Woodward on live TV, the Welsh favourite proved he's still got it when displaying his technique and charging full-blown at a tackle pad.

What you'd expect from such a ferocious competitor, right?

What you wouldn't expect is for Thomas to be dump-tackled by none other than Irish TV presenter Craig Doyle.

The comical clip, filmed live in the ITV Sport studio, has been shared online, with Doyle aptly setting the scene: "What we do do is still tackle hard, and a lot of the controversies in this World Cup are about bad tackles, high tackles, but it's such a key part of the game.

"Let's be honest, it's a physical game, and tackling is an enjoyable part of the game isn't it, and it should always be."

After letting loose on the tackle pad during the segment, Doyle brings the section to an end by saying: "Right, let me have it in on you, Alf - what've you got?" - catching the Welsh legend before he can pick the tackle pad up!

The Wales rugby legend shared the clip with the message: "So if I ever thought I had it, this proves I definitely don’t anymore. Taken down by Craig Doyle!!!!!"
