Gareth Thomas and husband Stephen deliver supplies to vulnerable people in masks

Gareth Thomas is showing it's not all doom and gloom amid the coronavirus lockdown.

In a stunning show of solidarity, the Welsh rugby icon and his husband Stephen are ensuring everyone in their area has enough supplies and food as people remain housebound.

Taking to Twitter, Gareth and Stephen posed for a selfie in protective masks and gloves.

"We come in peace," Gareth wrote, "If you can't get a supermarket slot or need essentials in Ewenny rural area me and husband are delivering for Ewenny stores."

Gareth recently spoke to The Mirror about mental health in sport, and how his coming out as gay a decade ago created a sporting landmark.

He also went public last year with his HIV diagnosis.

"We all have vulnerabilities, we all have secrets," he told, "We all have things we don't want other people to know. We feel that vulnerability makes us weak.

"I think a lot of people took faith from the fact that I had a big vulnerability, but took strength from it rather than weakness.

Gareth opened about living with HIV (Rowan Griffiths)

"Playing for Wales was always my dream as a kid and I worked really hard to do that. Rugby gave me a platform and I think what I've come through while playing - overcoming my sexuality and being open about it and continuing to play and then being open about my HIV status.

"I think that's a much more powerful legacy than my rugby career will ever leave behind."

He has managed to reduce his HIV to an undetectable state - meaning he can't pass it to others.

Gareth now lives with husband Stephen, having come out ten years ago - when he did, he received an outpouring of support.
