Gareth Southgate to watch Liverpool at the FIFA Club World Cup as part of scouting mission

Gareth Southgate will be watching on as Liverpool attempt to win the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time in Qatar next month.

The England manager will be checking on the progress of his players in the Reds side while also carrying out a scouting mission off the pitch.

Southgate will be looking at possible team hotels and training options for the Three Lions who, should they qualify, will be competing in the World Cup set to be held there in 2022.

Southgate believes England's preparation for Russia in 2018 was almost perfect but confirmed his attendance in Qatar and will watch Liverpool 's game on the 18 December before either the final or third/fourth place play-off three days' later.

He said: "I'm actually going to Qatar to watch some of Liverpool's games but also, it's exactly the time [of year when] the World Cup will be played there.

"So, the climate will be ideal to get a feel of an pinpoint a couple of camps that we would stay in there.

"You have to [do that]. You have to have preparation for all of those things going on. So, I'm excited to see what that's going to look like as well."

Southgate could also get the opportunity to check on the form of the England internationals in the Liverpool squad including Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez.
