Gareth Southgate's pointed transfer remarks about Harry Kane's England teammates

Gareth Southgate gave a pointed remark over transfer news surrounding his players on international duty.

It comes as the England boss prepares to trim down a provisional 33-man squad down to 26 with several players linked with moves away.

The highest-profile being that of Harry Kane - who has told Tottenham that he wants to leave at the end of the season.

Manchester City lead the chase for the 27-year-old, with Manchester United and Chelsea also keen ahead of the summer window.

Kane is keen on leaving before the European Championships go ahead this summer but Tottenham chief Daniel Levy is likely to draw out the saga as long as possible.

But Southgate's comments suggest that anyone looking to leave in the summer will have problems under his watch.

Along with Kane, the likes of Jadon Sancho, Kieran Trippier, Declan Rice and Ben White, and more, have all had their futures discussed at length over the course of the season.

The England boss said: “I don't need to talk about Harry Kane regarding focus or professionalism.

“He has got one goal with us and that's to win a European Championship.

“I know how important that is for him at this moment in time. What's going on at his club is a matter for him and Tottenham.

“He has made some statements in the last few days, so in many respects that is out of the way now and - I'm talking across the board now - I think it is very unlikely transfer deals will be done while we are away.”

Kane is not the only member of the England camp that has been linked with a move away from their respective club.

Sancho is another who the Red Devils have their eye on, as well as Chelsea and Liverpool, with Borussia Dortmund ready to accept bids in the region of £80m.

It comes after a failed move to Old Trafford last summer but the German club appear ready to accept offers, though talks are likely to stretch on over the summer.

Trippier has just won La Liga with Atletico Madrid but United are keen on bringing him to the Premier League.

Despite having Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the Red Devils are keen on some experienced back-up.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has his sights on another in the Three Lions set-up with Declan Rice among his top targets.

Chelsea are also looking at the West Ham star while Ben White is a centre-back on their shortlist after failing to land him last year from Brighton.

While many have been linked with a move to United, Jesse Lingard has been tipped to leave with West Ham keen on the playmaker after a fine loan spell in east London.

The Hammers are also keen on West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone while Jack Grealish could be at the centre of a transfer saga over the summer window.

City, Arsenal and United are keen on the Aston Villa captain, to top off a busy summer for England's stars.

It may be too much for Southgate to keep a lid on, if he is true to his word.
