Gareth Southgate's Robert Lewandowski claim about Tottenham ace Harry Kane ahead of Poland clash

Tottenham star Harry Kane has had a busy few months.

Kane was subject of intense transfer speculation all summer after making it no secret of his desire to win trophies as well as his admiration for Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, sparking a plethora of rumours linking him with a move to the Etihad.

The transfer saga culminated in the 28-year-old deciding to stay in N17, the perfect outcome for head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, who was desperate to keep his star striker.

Now, Kane is on international duty, having netted his 40th goal for England during their World Cup qualifier against Andorra on Sunday, leaving him just 13 shy of Wayne Rooney's record of 53.

And The Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate has backed the prolific frontman to continue at the top-level a long time

"There is every chance he will go as long as possible because he’s an incredible professional," Southgate said.

"Normally those things are determined by how you look after your body, what you eat, how you prepare. So he’s going to do that and that’s going to give him the best chance.

"You never know what circumstance can happen around that, but he will give himself the best chance."

England are preparing to face Poland on Wednesday evening and Southgate compared Kane to Polish talisman Robert Lewandowski, who was voted as the Best FIFA Men's Player for his performances throughout 2020.

Southgate added: "The two of them probably, with [Romelu] Lukaku, are the ones that spring to mind when you talk about focal points of the team, as a No.9, with the goalscoring records that they have.

"They all play slightly differently, although I see a lot of comparables with Lewandowski and Kane in the way they come deeper, receive play, play team-mates in, play those excellent passes, as well as their finishing capabilities and their range of finishing.

"There are without doubt similarities and those three are forwards at the top of their game."
