Gareth Southgate last night opened the door for a fresh FAI bid to lure Patrick Bamford to the Boys in Green.
The in-form Leeds striker was omitted from Southgate’s provisional squad for Euro 2020 despite finishing as England’s second highest Premier League goalscorer, with 17.
Irish bosses have tried in the past to convince Bamford to pledge allegiance to the green jersey.
The 27-year-old represented Ireland at Under-18 level, but earlier this season he admitted: “The idea of being selected for England is a dream.
“If I got one England cap in the whole of my career, I’d be over the moon.”
