Gareth Southgate makes Marcus Rashford and Callum Hudson-Odoi comparison

Gareth Southgate has urged Callum Hudson-Odoi to follow in the footsteps of Marcus Rashford and wait patiently for more first-team football.

The Chelsea winger has been heavily linked with a move in the summer window as speculation continues to mount over his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

Hudson-Odoi has just 15 months remaining on his Chelsea contract and with no extension signed the club could be forced to sell him this summer to ensure they don't lose him for free in a year's time.

Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Liverpool have all been linked with a move for the 18-year-old in recent weeks, with fresh reports of a move over the weekend emerging to coincide with his England debut.

However, Southgate has urged the youngster to carefully consider his club future and to bare in mind the manner in which Rashford quickly became an United regular in such a short space of time.

“If you look at number of appearances, he has actually been on the field quite a lot,” said Southgate.

“And I know from when we were talking with the club earlier in the season how much faith Maurizio [Sarri] has in him. He has got some outstanding players just in front of him but he’s slowly getting more and more game time.

“So, I think he’s maturing well. There doesn’t need to be a rush for him. We’ve seen that with Marcus Rashford and his development.

“He’s getting first-team football and that’s important. For us, I think his progress is good.”
