The England stars watching Leeds United's Ryan Edmondson score on his debut

Gareth Southgate and England’s senior stars were keeping an eye on Leeds United striker Ryan Edmondson as he scored on his international debut this afternoon.

The 18-year-old has only appeared once for the Whites first team since Marcelo Bielsa arrived from Argentina in what was a Championship substitute appearance nearly one year ago.

However, in the meantime, the former York City prospect has regularly featured, scored and won matches for the club’s under-23s.

Edmondson caught the eye of England under-19 boss Paul Simpson and was called into the youth side as a late replacement for Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun.

Despite being down the initial list of selections, Edmondson started in a friendly against Greece at St George’s Park, The Football Association’s national football centre.

Wearing his country’s number nine shirt, the teenager even scored the second goal in a 3-1 win in front of Southgate, who was watching from the sidelines.

The likes of Callum Wilson, Harry Maguire, James Maddison, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson, Mason Mount, Declan Rice and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were all pictured watching too.

Edmondson has another chance to impress when the under-19s face Germany on Monday in Haiger, Germany.
