Gareth Southgate agrees with Alan Shearer after the Newcastle legend's nod to his almighty row

Gareth Southgate has confirmed Harry Kane will start England's final Euro 2020 group game against the Czech Republic on Tuesday night.

Kane, who has failed to have a single shot on target during the tournament, was substituted in both of the Three Lions' opening group games against Croatia and Scotland

While a noticeably sluggish Kane has come under fire - no England player has had fewer touches (28) at Euro 2020 - Alan Shearer believes Southgate should 'definitely' keep faith with the 2018 World Cup's top scorer.

Shearer has advised Southgate to 'forget what anyone says about leaving him out', but that thought has clearly not entered the England boss' mind.

Southgate told ITV reporter Gabriel Clarke that 'you can assume' Kane will start at Wembley tomorrow night before joking he didn't 'mind giving you that one'.

Southgate then explained why he had taken the Spurs' star off in each of the Three Lions' last two matches.

"In one of the games, we were already ahead," he said. "We needed energy to press and to keep the lead. We didn't need an additional goal.

"During the World Cup, Harry ended up playing a lot of football and we felt the need to manage that load a little bit this time and we have got good options on the bench to bring people into the game.

"He's our most important player - there's no doubt about that. You've only got to look at his goalscoring record with us to see his importance to the team.

"He's fundamental not only to the goals he scores but the build-up play and everything else he brings.

"I know there will be a lot of questions being asked of him at the moment, but he's been through that 100 times before.

"I've answered that in this role several times in the past and he's comes up with the goals that have won us the next games and I expect that to be the same moving forward."

While analysing Kane's performance against Scotland for the BBC, Shearer said the No 9 needed to 'scream' at his team-mates to cross it 'when the ball goes wide'.

Shearer's advice brought back memories of when the Newcastle legend had a blazing row with David Ginola shortly after joining the Magpies in 1996 because the Frenchman was not putting enough balls into the box.
