Gareth O'Callaghan 'back on the radio' as star shares thoughts about 'ending it all'

Gareth O'Callaghan has told fans he's "back on the radio" as he shared some insight into his mindset these past few years off air.

The star of the airwaves has been battling Multiple System Atrophy, a rare neurodegenerative disorder which is incurable, since March 2018.

Gareth left his job as a DJ and presenter on Classic Hits 4FM back in August of that year due to his declining health.

But tonight, he said he'd be back on the radio in two weeks.

And he shared that his voice is "as good as ever" and that he does sometimes "think of ending it all" - but he loves life "so much".

The popular presenter tweeted: "I might as well tell you, but it's an exclusive @sundayworld as far as the exact details are concerned, I'm going back on air, back on the radio.

"It is true. It's happening. I'm back on the radio! And I can't wait because I've missed it for almost four long years. I can't give any precise details until tomorrow. But it will be happening live within the fortnight

"I'm working so hard on keeping the physical strength intact. Not easy. Legs!! So many challenges but I'm up for every one of them! I'm grateful my voice feels as strong as ever. My legs need constant work but I will fight this illness for as long as I can. MSA will never beat me!

"My voice should've been one of the first casualties, the same as motor neuron disease, but I've been blessed that my voice is good as ever. Don't know why. I do all my vocal exercises. Lots of other challenges but I'm learning about pain. Much love tonight if you're not the best.

"Actually I've a confession. I get so pissed off with pain and other issues sometimes, that I do sometimes think of ending it all. But then I remind myself that I love my life, and that my wife would be furious and sad; and for every bad day, there's good days. I love life so much.

"Right so, time to go to bed now. Lots of home truths this past hour. No need to worry about me. You see I'm a talker. Please be a talker to anyone you trust. Don't be afraid of life. It's time and space, and you're in charge of it all. One moment can change everything, or nothing."
