Gareth Malone shares anger after son is knocked over by a jogger

Gareth Malone shared an angry message for joggers that don’t comply with social distancing advice after a runner bumped into his son.

Posting a photo of a banner in a London park which read “You need to stay 2 metres apart to save lives now” to emphasise the health guidelines for limiting the spread of coronavirus, the choir leader, 44, told Twitter followers how a man “fell on” his six-year-old son Gilbert.

“Hey joggers of London. This rule doesn’t apply to you,” he wrote, alluding to the poster.

“Your speed makes you immune and the government have made up this silly rule for people with families, not you.

“Glad to have helped. And to the man who ran up behind my son and fell on him - he should have seen you coming.”

Posting in response to another Twitter user who asked how the incident had occurred, he then explained: “We were walking together and [the jogger] ran up behind us and didn’t stop in time.

He added that there had been plenty of space for the runner, who became “irate” when challenged on his behaviour, to avoid his son.

“When challenged he became irate and told us that it was our fault,” he wrote.

“It was preposterous. He could have avoided us for 25 metres in either direction OR waited. But no.”

Malone has three children with his wife Becky.

The TV star recently launched a home choir project to bring together isolated singers during the coronavirus outbreak.

The Great British Home Chorus will bring together professional and amateur singers from all around the country.
