Gareth Edwards To Direct New 'Jurassic World' Film For Universal

Jurassic World-FanArt

Rogue One director Gareth Edwards is currently in discussions to helm a new installment in the Jurassic World franchise for Universal Pictures. This development comes shortly after negotiations with David Leitch fell through. The upcoming film will be overseen by executive producer Steven Spielberg under his production company, Amblin Entertainment. Producers Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are on board, along with David Leitch and Kelly McCormick from 87North.

The script for the untitled project, set to hit theaters on July 2, 2025, will be penned by David Koepp, known for his work on Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. It remains uncertain whether previous stars such as Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, or Jeff Goldblum will make a return.

David Koepp's impressive resume includes writing credits for Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man, Death Becomes Her, Panic Room, and War of the Worlds. He is represented by CAA and attorney David Fox at Myman Greenspan Fineman Fox Rosenberg & Light.

The Jurassic Park franchise, which commenced with Spielberg's original film in 1993, has amassed over $6 billion globally. The most recent installment, Jurassic World Dominion released in 2022, crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide.

Gareth Edwards, known for his directorial work on The Creator, is nominated for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects at this year's Academy Awards. His previous directorial projects include Monsters (2010) and Godzilla (2014). Edwards is represented by WME and Range Media Partners.
