Gareth Bale transfer to Jiangsu Suning ‘close’ with Real Madrid star set to sign £1m-a-week contract

Gareth Bale’s proposed move to the Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning is gathering pace.

Spanish publication Marca report that ‘only small details remain’ in the deal that would see the former Tottenham star become the highest-paid footballer in the world.

Bale is expected to sign a three-year contract worth a staggering £1million-a-week to end his six-season stay at Real Madrid.

Since arriving from Spurs in 2013 the Wales international has won 14 trophies with Real Madrid, including the La Liga title and four Champions Leagues.

But his tenure in Madrid ends on a sour note having falling out with head coach Zinedine Zidane.

In truth, Bale would have probably left 12 months ago had Zidane not stepped down as head coach, but since his return to the club in March the writing has been on the wall for the Welshman.

Despite his 102 goals for the club, Zidane made it clear he was not Bale's biggest fan and the player's injury record - appearing in only 53% of the total minutes and suffering 22 separate injuries - did not help his cause.

Last week Zidane had said the player was "very close to leaving" and his exit would be "best for everyone" after omitting him from their pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich.

In sparked a furious response from Bale's agent, Jonathan Barnett, who branded Zidane a "disgrace".

Bale would come off the bench to score against Arsenal days later, before making what is expected to be his final appearance for Real… a crushing 7-3 defeat to local rivals Atletico Madrid in their pre-season encounter in New Jersey .
