Gareth Bale told to complete transfer as Tanguy Ndombele makes strange Tottenham training choice

Here is your Tottenham morning digest for Friday, May 22.

Stand out moments from Tottenham’s training return

Jose Mourinho’s players had the opportunity to get some sense of normality back on Wednesday when they returned to the club’s training facility for the first time in two months.

The suspension of fixtures in the Premier League and further lockdown restrictions from the UK government meant that players had been forced to train within their homes. However, Wednesday’s return led to some valuable outcomes for supporters.

Not least of all was the return of injury absentees Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko and Steven Bergwijn who all took part in training.

But another thing that caught the eye was how many of the players looked very happy to be back with their teammates. Smiles dominated training sessions for many players given the restrictions placed by lockdown measures.

Most of all, though, a change of look for several Spurs stars had occurred due to social distancing policies preventing barber shops from opening.

Erik Lamela’s new look bleached hair showed a somewhat radical change which we assume was a DIY hair dye job.

Bale told to sign for Newcastle United amid takeover discussions

Former Spurs star Gareth Bale has been urged to sign for Newcastle United in the next transfer window by Brazil legend Rivaldo.

The Welshman has been linked with a move to Tyneside amid ongoing discussions over a £300m takeover by Amanda Staveley and Co. Increased uncertainty over Bale’s future has therefore linked the forward with a move to Newcastle United as one of a number of notable signings the club are reportedly looking to make.

Rivaldo believes that Bale could be making a good decision by signing for Newcastle in a bid to remain as a much loved player.

“There are rumours that Gareth Bale is being offered to MLS clubs and that he is looking forward to a move to the US soon, but I still think he has something left to show in European football at 30-years-old, before moving to the MLS,” the former Barcelona star told Betfair.

“Newcastle should receive a big money injection this summer with a new owner coming to town and this could be a great destination for Gareth Bale, as he could reassume his superstar status at the club and keep earning a big amount of money.

“It would be a great chance for him to prove he is still a top-class player and be considered again one of the best in the world, so if this offer really comes, I think he should accept it.”

Winks tipped for crucial England role

Gary Neville thinks that Harry Winks has the ability to solve England’s midfield issues.

The former Manchester United defender and now Sky Sports pundit believes that the Spurs midfielder could be the key to solving Gareth Southgate’s issues in midfield.

Asked about the impact he can make on the international stage, Neville told Sky Sports' Football Show : "I'm surprised he hasn't because England in the last tournament, struggled at times to break the midfield and struggled to get on and keep the ball.

"I think he is the type of player who does play off-line. He can take the ball, he will always receive it on the half turn. I think he is a player who reminds of Jack Wilshere in the way he receives it and glides forward with it.

"I think he is a really good player and I enjoy watching him play. I was surprised in the Champions League final that he was taken off last year because I thought he was having a really good team."
