Gareth Bale to Tottenham: Self-solation rules, contract details and what happens next

Gareth Bale is expected to complete his move to Tottenham Hotspur today.

Bale arrived in London this morning to wrap up his return to Spurs, signing on a season-long loan with an option of a second year, which would take him to the end of his Real Madrid contract.

But the Welshman, and indeed Sergio Reguilon, who is also set to arrive from Real Madrid today, will not have to self-isolate upon arrival in the UK.

The current rules around coronavirus state those arriving from Spain - which is not on the exempt travel corridor list - have to self-isolate for 14 days.

But that does not apply to elite sportsmen, allowing Bale and Reguilon to enter the country and go to work for Spurs immediately after the deal is done.

There were some provisos, however, with both Bale and Reguilon having their medicals in Madrid as well as MRI scans and COVID-19 tests.

With those tests coming back as negative, the pair were free to fly, departing Madrid on a private jet at 10am, due to land at Luton Airport at 11.30am.

They then head to Spurs' Tottenham Hotspur Way training complex to complete the deals.

Bale is expected to join on a loan deal with Spurs paying 40% of the Welshman's wages, while Reguilon will join permanently on a deal worth around £28million.
