Gareth Bale to complete Tottenham return as Jose Mourinho makes Dele Alli decision

Here's all the news from around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Gareth Bale waiting to complete Spurs move

Gareth Bale is moving closer to securing a return to Tottenham Hotspur, with the Welshman waiting in Madrid to board a flight to London to complete the switch.

According to Sky Sports, progress has been slow on the loan agreement which will see Bale join Spurs for the 2020/21 season from Real Madrid, but all parties are confident that an agreement will be reached.

It’s claimed Bale won’t be fully fit for a month, with the Welshman struggling from a lack of first team football at Real Madrid where he has become a peripheral figure under Zinedine Zidane.

Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett told AFP on Wednesday that despite Bale’s desire to return to Spurs, there is still some work to be done, commenting: “It's close but not done. It's a complicated deal.”

Spurs fans speculate over Gareth Bale’s new shirt number

Gareth Bale is edging closer to becoming a Tottenham Hotspur player and fans of the North London club are already speculating over the shirt number the Welshman might wear.

Erik Lamela currently holds Bale’s favoured number 11 at Spurs which will force the winger to choose another shirt number should he join the club on loan from Real Madrid for the 2020/21 season.

Number three is currently free having been previously held by Danny Rose before he joined Newcastle United on loan last season, leading some fans to suggest Bale could reclaim the shirt number he first had at Spurs.

Number nine is also free, with the shirt last worn by the disappointing Vincent Janssen.

Michel Vorm’s exit at the end of last season also means the number 13 shirt could be another option for Bale.

Dele Alli omitted from Spurs squad for Europa League qualifier amid exit rumours

Dele Alli has been left out of Tottenham Hotspur’s squad for Thursday’s Europa League qualifier against Lokomotiv Plovdiv amid reports the midfielder could be on his way out of the club.

With Gareth Bale seemingly on the brink of securing a return to Spurs, it was reported Dele could be included in a deal that sends the England international to Real Madrid in exchange.

Jose Mourinho’s decision to omit Dele from his squad for Thursday night’s European fixture only added to the suggestions the 24-year-old could be used as a makeweight to re-sign Bale.

However, football.london understands Tottenham are not expecting Dele to be sold in this summer’s transfer window with the midfielder still part of Mourinho’s plans for the future.
