Gareth Bale: Thibaut Courtois backs Real Madrid team-mate to bounce back from Bernabeu boos

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has backed Gareth Bale to bounce back from the jeers at the Santiago Bernabeu ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

Bale was whistled by thousands of fans when he came off the bench in the 3-1 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday, having faced fierce criticism from the Spanish media for his celebration with a flag which read 'Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order' during the recent international break.

But, speaking in Monday's pre-match press conference, Courtois said: "We are here to win games. What happened, happened with his national team. He gives everything in training and in matches to help us win."

And he added: "The Bernabeu has its opinion and who am I to give an opinion on that?"

The former Chelsea shot-stopper was also asked if the thought Bale had his priorities right.

"You love your country and maybe that comes even before where you are playing," he said. "He made fun with that, but he is committed and he is a top professional.

"On Saturday, he was very involved when he came into the game and he generated a lot of danger. [Luka] Modric's goal came from his cross. If he was not committed, he wouldn't play like that."

Courtois, who has also been whistled by the Bernabeu in his short time at the club, said: "You know it can happen. You hear them, but we were concentrated on the game.

"The fans are critical and we want them to be with us 100%."
