Gareth Bale sends personal message to Tottenham fans as £20m transfer confirmed

Gareth Bale has sent a personal tweet to Tottenham supporters after his season-long loan move from Real Madrid was confirmed.

Spurs announced the return of Bale on Saturday afternoon, and will pay £250k-a-week of his £600k-a-week wages, with his parent club continuing to pay the bulk.

This means he will earn £20million-a-year on loan in north London, becoming one of the Premier League's best-paid players in the process.

The 31-year-old Welsh international wasted no time in sending a message to the fans who adored him during his previous six-year spell at the club between 2007-13.

He posted a picture of himself in his new Spurs shirt making a love heart gesture around the badge, along with the caption: "To all the Spurs fans, after 7 years, I'm back #COYS."

And with an interview with the club he added: "It's such a special club to me. It's incredible to be back and hopefully now I can get some match fitness and get underway and really help the team and hopefully win trophies.

"I always thought when I did leave that one day I would come back and the opportunity has now arisen. I'm hungry, I'm motivated and I want to do well for the team.

"I think by going to Madrid, winning trophies and going far with the national team I feel I have that winning mentality. You don't realise until you're there, and in those situations in finals knowing how to deal with nerves and pressure.

"Hopefully I can bring that to the dressing room and bring a bit more belief to everyone that we can win a trophy and the target is to do that this season.

"The club continues to progress every year and I want to contribute to that and to try to get us to the next level which is winning a trophy."
