Gareth Bale 'secretly marries' childhood sweetheart - causing anger from new in-laws

Gareth Bale has married his childhood sweetheart in a hush-hush ceremony.

Bale, 29, married his partner Emma Rhys-Jones, 27, in front of 60 family members and friends at a five-star hotel on a Majorcan island - but the pair excluded some important guests.

Ex-SAS were hired to protect the event, a decision taken after Emma's family were caught up in a drugs feud in Cardiff .

Her dad, Martin, did not attend while her grandparents John and Eva McMurray, who helped raise her, were also absent.

Speaking to The Sun, John said: "I can't believe what they have done. We knew the wedding was coming up and of course we were expecting an invite. We helped bring Emma up - I was like a dad to her when her own father was in jail.

"She asked me if I'd walk her down the aisle when she married Gareth."

The newlyweds had planned on a 'star-studded occasion in a picturesque Italian castle' while Beyonce would be their wedding singer.

But they had postponed it after what was described as a “rollercoaster” year.

However, the pair decided to relocate to the island of Tagomago, off Majorca, the place where Bale popped the question to Emma in 2016.

It's reported the ceremony was so private the guests were only told the location 24 hours before and had to hand over their mobile phones to guards.

For those who could not attend, they are supposedly planning a wedding party to be held later this year. However, it remains to be seen whether the family members who missed the ceremony will be present.

On the pitch, Bale's future at Spanish giants Real Madrid is under threat with the Welshman appearing to have dropped down the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane .

The arrival of attacking talents Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard will surely call Bale's position into question, with a return to England among the latest transfer rumours.

Manchester United have been tipped as a possible destination for Bale, who has been linked with a player-plus-cash deal which would see Paul Pogba move in the opposite direction.
