Gareth Bale's Tottenham shirt number confirmed as Spurs make announcement

Gareth Bale will wear the No.9 shirt after joining Tottenham on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid.

The transfer was made official on Saturday, September 19, seven years after the Wales star left the club to move to Spain.

The 31-year-old will wear the number 9 shirt at Spurs.

It comes after eagle-eyed fans spotted changes to Spurs' Twitter account in a major hint to his new number.

The social media page's bio changed to include the numbers '16:03:11:09', along with an emoji of a home. Bale's first three shirt numbers during his first stint at Tottenham were 16, 3 and 11.

And now it's been confirmed 9 is his new shirt number.

The number was last worn by Vincent Janssen and has been vacant since his departure in 2019.

Meanwhile, Spurs also announced the signing of Bale's Real Madrid teammate Sergio Reguilon on a permanent basis.
